I have heard so many bemoaning their fear of flying, driving, walking and even breathing because they feel "afraid". I am an American and proud of it. I fought for this country. Was I afraid? You bet. Did I hide under the bed and suck my thumb? NO! Have American become so fearful that a bunch of **********can control our lives? If I sound angry it is because I am!

Well, I agree that it shouldn't make you stop living your life. One needn't take imprudent risks, but really, how much risk can you avoid?
It is inherent in human nature to accept and mitigate risk all day. So much so, there is an entire industry making money off of it, and we devote a significant portion of our tax dollars to regulation of it, among other things.
