"then lets say your surgeon stumbles in after a hard night of partying and smoking pot and he's ready to operate."
that is possibly the stupidest thing i have ever heard. i really dont think people will misuse in this way (at inapporipate times) because cmon when have you ever seen a drunk doctor? or pilot? please...if they were really that morally corrupt they would give a crap if it was illegial or not and do it anyway!

Being natural isn't a good arguement for it. Tar is natural too, but that doesn't mean it's ok to eat.
You are under the influence of a drug when you take it, and therefore impares your abilities and perception. It can be very dangerous if not respected for what it is.
la dolce vita.:
don't get your self all worked up. I was proving your point about natural to be wrong. Access to precription drugs and alcohol is regulated. You don't see every 18year old going to their doc to get Prozac or Viagra, do you??? Or to get a 40oz.????
Unless you have a medical condition you can't really get it within the law(depending on where you live). So it's not banned outright. You really need to practice reading. I didn't say it should or it shouldn't be banned. Think about it.

I am a person that does not spoke marijuana but I do believe it should be legal because alcohol is much more dangerous than marijuana could ever be (by itself). People have killed themselves from drinking and driving, from even drinking to much. You can get alcohol poisoning. And when people smoke marijuana they forget stuff easily like where they even put their keys LOL. A drunk person always knows where them keys are and where they parked. LOL. Anyways I think yes it should be legal. No since in it not being. And if the government would get in on this just think of what kinda money they would make.

No, you cant overdose with it. but like alcohol, its a bad idea to drink and smoke? Bad idea to hit on girls while high (knee to your balls). Perhaps if they have laws like the ones they have with alcohol, then sure legalize it. Ans aldo, medical drugs have warning labels telling you not to drive/drink while pregnant etc. Medicine is also beneficial for health, not as a recreational hobbie although marijuana is used for some medical patients also.
As far as whether it is morally right, you dont need a mommy-government to tell you to do or what not to do. If you know there is danger involved and you are still doing it, go ahead...just dont fool around with other peoples' lives. Its up to you or your family up bringing to have you understand the consequences.
On the other I dont see why cigarettes are still legal because 2nd hand smoking is just as unhealthy as 1st hand smoking and probably the only reason that I can thnk of is that tobacco companies have a lot of political power/make a lot of donations.

I personally don't smoke it. Unlike Clinton never smoked never inhaled. It will always be around wheather it is legal or not. I lean toward legalizing it because the government could regulate it and tax it. For instance, a law or regulation could be home use only. The major problem is with legalization you still have people that would use it at inappropriate times like on their jobs or when they drive. For instance, would you like a heavy equipment operator high or an airline pilot?
Being illegal the fear of punishment keeps some people from doing it at those inappropriate times. If you make it legal without some sort of restrictions then it would be a free for all.

I don't know it for a fact but I hear it increases the rate for lung cancer by 4 times.
Not to mention ulcers, mood swings and heart disease.
Just like cigerettes.
But of course cigs and alcohol is legal so I think they should let weed be lagalized as well.
Hell it's half way legal now!
Almost anyone can get a weed license and buy meds as long as you have "back pains", "neck pains", "artheritis" etc.
Oh and to sphere_68 I'm not trying to be a smart a s s but that's why we have laws against alcohol right? Weed should be legalized but have laws against smoking and....driving for example.

No it should not be, and not because it is sooooooo dangerous.
Look at the social problems with alcohol & tobacco! They have ancient and complicated histories that make banning them nearly impossible. legalizing yet another problematic substance is like saying we already have a mouse loose in the house, lets release a rat too, it's no worse than the mouse!
Is it any different being killed by a drunk than it is by some one who is altered by something else.
People who advocate the legalization of their favorite substance of escape do not have the best interest of my self or any one else at heart. Society can survive without any mood altering chemicals. It just takes a bit of discipline.
My concern is not with YOUR heatlh and well being, it's with MINE.
I don't wan't you drunk or stoned, on the roads that my family drives on. I don't want some one as an employee who has never learned to cope with disappointment or how to entertain yourself without chemical assistance. Even when you're not high, you are unreliable and suck as a co-worker.

Let's say it gets legalized and like so many other things, people abuse it. Now lets say you or a loved one is scheduled for delicate, brain surgery, for instance; then lets say your surgeon stumbles in after a hard night of partying and smoking pot and he's ready to operate. Sadly, he collects himself a bit before his colleagues notice that he is impaired and he proceeds to operate on you or that loved one. Legalization really sounds fun! Not!

Just take it from a former weed smoker, Don't legalize marijuana. The reason is marijuana is really a drug that truly leads to other more powerful drugs. I've seen it happen many times so I know what I'm talking about. Any kind of mind inhibitor is dangerous and detrimental to your well being.....

Yes
The war on drugs has been as effective as the war on terrorism.
Both are ideological realities imposed by the rich to control the poor.
Weed in and of itself poses no risk other than to take money out of the pockets of the alcohol and beer industries.
This fact will keep it illegal as long as policies are determined by those who can purchase a legislator.
