I was given a can of formula by a neighbor, that was opened but not used. She said that she bought the wrong kind for her grandkid, but realized it after she opened it. I gave my daughter a bottle of it. Then my neighbor called and said that she forgot to tell me that it was opened six mths ago, but sealed and stored in her pantry. I know that you should use it within a mth after opening. What can happen?

Wow...I just got finished reading an article in my Parents magazine about this...The reason you don't feel a baby powdered formula that has been opened more than a month is bacteria can get into the formula an make your baby sick. If you only made one bottle I would not worry...but also would not make anymore out of that can. I'd throw the can out.

The baby will exploded into a million pieces!

Ahh, I suppose the formula could be bad... kinda would depend on the moisture levels. Read the package.

I personally wouldn't do it. When in doubt, throw it out. However, if the baby is starving and it's all you got...

The baby might of coarse get sick from it, if it has gone bad.

Otherwise, nothing will happen if it's still good. Well, nothing except the baby will be fed and not hungery.

Call your Dr. or poison control just to be on the safe side. Watch for any changes in your daughter for the next few hours.
She may get diarrhea or even a stomachache but anything else like vomiting or just fussing non stop and if diarrhea is excessive then take her to the ER.
She should be fine. I really don't think anything serious could happen but do call to make sure.

Don't use it. Once you open a can of powdered formula, it's good for one month, regardless of whether or not it's been left sitting in a dark, cool place untouched. It could potentially make your baby very sick. Plus, it's someone else's formula, you know? Even though it's your neighbor, you never know...

If she only opened it once...and it doesn't look moldy or looks in anyway suspicious.....Then again....would you return something you bought from the store, if it looks like it was opened before? I would. Do you know your neighbor very well? I don't trust anything that has been opened. Throw it away! Better safe than sorry. It's not like you spent money on it.

the can says to use it with in thirty days, but i can't imagine that it would go bad. i know that the formula soaks up water from the air so maybe that is why it has a shelf life, have you ever noticed that if you leave the lid off the container it starts to have the consistency changed a little

The most likely thing to happen is your baby will get sick and probobly just get A LOT of rashes! Someone else that I know had the same problem. You should see a doc ASAP!

Throw it away, what kind of idiot is your neighbour to give you something like that. Probably nothing will happen but you are taking a serious risk if you go on using it.
