Everyone is issued their own number at birth.
You can never change your number.

"colinsmom" is 0 for 2 actually.

Your number is issued when you apply for it. Which may be at birth, but can be any time after birth before you get a paying job. Many people don't apply until they are teenagers.

And you can change your social security number. You just have to convince the government of a really really really good reason (or go into witness protection).

Hey, coragryph, leave colinsmom alone. She's entitled to her beliefs regardless of whether or not they correspond to reality. You're probably one of those guys who give fundamentalists a hard time too.
