Wash and dry can thoroughly, I recommend a few hours in the sun.
Wrap can in an old towel, and flatten with a hammer (I'll leave it up to you where the best place in your house to do this.)
Check regularly to try and get the can to lay evenly flat.
Now, don't look at the "can" part,(the opening is to the back), look at the shape.
1)Painted orange, add a silk leaf, raffia bow and it becomes a pumpkin
2)Painted red, with a small silk leaf, add some shading, it becomes an apple.
Clown Face, Mickey Mouse, bullseye target, baseball, etc...
Raffia, hemp rope, fabric strips, etc...
Okay, you get the idea. I suggest Country Marketplace or Country Sampler magazine to get the general idea of the homespun look.
Have fun...

OK. This is going to sound a little trailer trash, but here goes!
I was driving around a not-to-nice area a few months ago, when I saw a tree decorated with these large ornaments. They were all beer cans!!!
Now, after you laugh and scoff... Isn't that a great idea for Christmas? I mean, perhaps not with beer cans, but soda cans - decorated, cut up, etc?
Have fun, and when you make one, e-mail me a pic.

cut off the top about a inch down to make a pencil holder,
cut it length wise to make a bote,
remove the tab put a cork in the hole turn it up side down and cut a slit to make a bank,
cut the side of the can in a shape like this ] in four spots equaly spaced apart and bend them away from the can to make a water weel or do that and tie a string to the tab to make a wind chime like thing.

cut the top off the can, make slits all the way down the sides to the bottom of the can, stick a pole through the bottom of the can where it can still turn, viola!

bind the soda cans with wire and cast them inside a concrete block...this makes a lighter...more manageable unitized brick with which you can build any sized "modest" structure!!!the sealed spaces disperse absorbed heat more readily and are easily handled by smaller workers without limiting either the size of your finished building or the speed of construction!!!the cans within the blocks take-up most of the mass of the unit saving on the costs of the concrete but yeilding the same sized block!!!!

my grandmother used to cut around the end with the opening and remove it...then she took tin snips and cut small strips all the way to the bottom of the can...then she took a metal key (like you find on a sardine can) and wound the strips to form curls...she made miniature tables and chairs with them...they were quite unique
