Jean Charles de Menezes didn't run. He was shot 7 times when he was inside the train.
The eye witness told that the police didn't said: Armed Police...Stand where you are...(What the police should have done but not)
It was the police said and later was discovered as a lie and Scotland Yard was ashamed.
I'm Brazilian and I've read the newspapers about Jean Charles de Menezes.
We Brazilian have one of the most corrupt police forces in the world, no one deny it, on the contrary, you Police Force was the best in the world, until Jean Charles de Menezes' case...that's shame!
I still consider your Police the best in the world!

He didn't run. That story was false and has been officially retracted in the light of overwhelming evidence. This is the report corroborated by unbiased members of the public who saw it happen:
"He used his Oyster card to pay the fare, walked through the barriers, and descended the escalator slowly. He then ran across the platform to board the newly-arrived train. Menezes boarded the train and found one of the first available seats
The firearms officers boarded the train and challenged the suspect. Menezes then stood up and advanced towards the officers and (another, unarmed surveilance officer) grabbed him, pinned his arms against his torso, and pushed him back into the seat. At close range, Menezes was shot seven times in the head and once in the shoulder. He died at the scene."

Funny how those that deny the story know so much and of course their account is totally correct.
Had he been a terrorist one bullet to the shoulder would have enabled the bomb to go off. 7 in the head prevented a possible bomb explosion. British police are still professional and dont kill without considered reason. If they got the information wrong, and I don't see any follow up to find out what this guy was doing, then a mistake was made. He really shouldn't have overstayed his visa, could he have done that to integrate into the darker world and the police had the right man just at the wrong time. Perhaps none will ever know the answers but it amazes me how "right" some of the people are on here

1) The police never said "armed police.. stand where you are".
2) Jean Charles was running for the train. He was not aware of the police following him.
3) He was seated on the train when the police attacked him.
In the circumstances your question in odd.

Well I would have run too.!. Foreigners get scared when they see men with guns. Accents differ and it isnt always easy to understand or even understand the situation I also heard that he wasnt moving at the time he was shot. I was abroad once when armed police in civvies came to the building I was staying in to a drug addict and I was so scared I got into the flat..shut the door and shouted to my husband not to mix with the guy as there were gangsters outside in our corridor.

1) He was Brazilian, and his English was limited.
2) The police were not uniformed, but sinister figures in black
3) He had an mp3 player on - this was mistaken for the 'suicide-bomb-vest-command-wire'
4) Good police-work would have been a bullet in the shoulder, very easy at close range. (He would have been very valuable alive, were he a terrorist, and not an innocent man, followed from the block of flats that happened to be under surveillance. If you have any tanned friends, that could have been them.) Eight shots in the back of the head? Come on!

No, you're not the only one. It was my first thought, particularly given the situation in London at the time, yes it is tragic and I am sorry for his family, but he should never have moved on hearing those words. The worst would happen was deportation, to a country where he wasn't politically at risk, now he is dead.

He didn't. You just believe all the lies that were told about him afterwards.
They publicly branded him as a terrorist.
He was sitting still. He was surrounded. One officer had their arms around him restraining him.
Plus, when I heard the first report, I wasn't that surprised that someone from South America would run. Things are a bit different in some s.a. countries to here - you think, until this happens.

Why did he get shot in the head 7 times ???? once would have done it.
What would you do if you had 7 armed police aiming guns at you for no reason, of course you would run, it would be an automatic flight/fight response from your brain.

The apparent & now verified truth is that he was sitting on the train before being shot: The other flaw in the Metropolitan terrorists...oops, I mean Police, way of dealing with a suicide bomber on public transport is that instantly killing them may not guarantee that the bomb will not detonate- (ie. if the bomb is wired with a dead mans switch-(the bombers finger is keeping the detonator pressed, & if he loses conciousness (shot dead) then he releases the trigger and the bomb goes off.)
To fight terrorisim effectively, the police need to concentrate on getting their intelligence completely right rather than being too trigger happy
