A lot of gays usually have have other interests. There are some sports fans in the gay community though. I'm gay and am a very big sports fan. Die Hard baseball fan. I try to get to at least 20 - 25 baseball games a year if not more. I always have a football game on in the winter, and love hockey as well.

"How come so many gay men don't watch sports as much?" - I don't have anything to prove by watching sports.
Now playing sports is another thing. Where I live there are many community GLBT sports teams to be involved in. Baseball, soccer, football, tennis, water-polo, etc.
What does being a "rabid fan" do for anyone? The sports industry is so out-of-touch and overpaid, that by buying into it is insulting to most cerebral people - gay or straight.

How do you know this is true? Do you know every "gay" men on the planet or is your opinion based on nothing more than ignorance? It is nothing more than a stereotype what you are asking and ALL stereotypes are ALWAYS false! Some may not like sports as much but it's hardly most. And there's also "gay" men in professional sports believe it or not!

That's a stereotype, but I'd say it has some basis in truth. After all I'm gay and I hate sports. But I know allot of straight men (my dad for one) that also dislike sports. Most of the straight guys that I get along with are what society would call nerds (my dad, for example) and I've noticed that around the same percentage of nerds dislike sports as gay men who dislike sports. I don't think it has anything to do with sexuality, but rather with aggressive tendencies. Perhaps it has something to do with hormone levels. Maybe they should do a study on gay men who like sports, vs. straight men who dislike sports?

Mostly because they are just not interested. Some gay men do enjoy sports while some don't. It has nothing to do with gay or straight. Usually the media exagerates the image of what "gay" or "straight"men are like. In the end people watch what holds their interest.

There are many gay men is sports. They just don't come out because they wouldn't get paid. I am gay. My partner was a champion swimmer who almost went to the Olympics. We go to games all the time. Baseball, Hockey, Basketball, Wrestling, Nascar. Our den is done in the Phoenix Suns colors.
Remember, not all gays wear their sexuality on their sleeves. Just because they aren't swishin' doesn't mean they go fishin'.

I'm sure many gay men watch and participate in sports, but there are many men bother gays and straights that find better more productive things to do with their time.

Stereotypical masculine behavior includes competitiveness.
Watching sports is pretty much vicarious competetiveness.
Yes, women can be competitive, but it isn't built into the psyche
in the same way (competing for mates, competing with prey
(will I catch it vs. will it get away), etc...
I think people pick up their interest in sports through what their
peers are doing - and if your peers aren't into it, there is at
least some chance that you won't be into it.
Homosexual men generally aren't trying to broadcast
their masculinity - and consequently, that's one thing they
don't have to push.
There are exceptions to all of these very very general
statements. Many homosexual men do broadcast their
masculinity (and many are into competitive sports).
I know women who are FAR more competitive than your
average guy.
However, as generalities go, I think that if guys take themselves
out of competition for women, they take themselves out of
a lot of other competitve behavior as well.

There are a ton of gay men in to sports. There are loads of gay men playing sports....you just don't know it.
There are also a ton of gay men who'd rather watch the Lifetime channel than a basketball game.
It varies.
