It is extremely important to your future. Employers look for mispellings on resumes, listen for grammar errors when you speak in an interview. Being an educator, personally, I think what I see online, here on Yahoo especially, tells me there are a lot of kids that don't have the skills.

I was brought up to believe that they were important, but that some people spoke a dialect and were still able to write correct grammar and spelling. Recently I've found that people who speak a dialect do not necessarily use correct grammar and spelling in their writing. On a literacy support course I was introduced to the idea that something in speech is not incorrect if other people can understand it. So much for my thoughts on standards. On here we find that people have different views of , knowledge of and exposure to the English language. Some are obviously foreign speakers and should be encouraged, as I would like to be if I was communicating in a foreign language. This is not an English exam - it is supposed to be enjoyable. I think we should take note of the message users are conveying, rather than analyse their use of English.

they're considerable by using fact following an identical conventions ensures all your readers understand what you have written. Joyce's artwork did destroy those conventions and that does make his artwork super, regardless of if it rather is not as though he wrote that way each and every of the time; those little 'experiments' on occasion featured in his writing as imaginative concepts. regrettably, much less and much less little ones are gaining expertise of the cost of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. My sister is an English instructor and started working at a clean college those days. She's had 14 12 months previous scholars who incorporate textual content-language and slang into their writing and think of it rather is okay. as an occasion, one boy wrote some thing like: 'that's a bare good poem cos it makes u snort a lot and stuff' in an essay!

I teach History and Politics, and, to me, spelling and grammar are very important. At my last school, I would have regular spelling games with my 11-13 year olds, and with the older ones, I would always correct spelling.
I don't think it is as important in somewhere informal (message boards, etc) but important when you are sending a letter/email/text.

I suspect you'll get some very mixed responses to this. You only have to look at some of the questions/answers on here to know that for many people spelling and/or grammar are of little importance. Personally I find it really disappointing. As someone who helps to train school & college leavers when they enter my profession I find it worrying when first they have to be taught how to spell in order to produce an acceptable business communication.

Urm, i guess it is quite important but then again, maybe not... i mean i think you can understand if i wrote:
I lkie yuor qsteion, its a vrey itersnting one.
As I've read before, your eye reads only the first and last letter of the word, and you know what it is. So i don't think spelling is that important as people make it out to be, but grammar, yes. To show expressions.

Spelling and grammar are very important in the work place and in the classroom. Be careful when it comes to this place: if you fail to use your punctuation and grammar adequately it may lead to a few digs. Just a helpful hint.

They are important to getting your message over, so both? Good grammar and spelling makes things easier to read and communication easier. Communication is hard enough between otherwise intelligent people without making it harder by not putting any effort into what you're saying.

As an adult I can say that it's essential to my career. When sending written messages, letters, or email, it's important that the receiver understands exactly what I'm trying to explain. And it's important that I understand what someone sends me.
When I was in the Army, a wise non-commissioned officer once told me "Communication is key".
