For starters, are you wanting to be employed by the mall or by one of the shops in the mall.

Once you decide who you want to work for, dress up as if you were attending a major religious event at the church, temple... Even if you are only planning to pick-up an application and return it later, dress up. You never know if the manager will decide to conduct an interview on the spot and the better you are dressed, the better impression you will make. Besides, if you are working in a store at the mall, the manager wants to see how presentable you will be for the guests.

If you are applying for a job with the mall itself, they will have administartive offices on location. If you do not find it easily, ask a security guard or ask a concierge at an information desk and they will direct you to the proper office.

If you are looking for a job in any of the stores, visit them between the hours of 9 - 11 and 2 - 4. They are less likely to be too busy when you avoid the lunch hours. When you ask for an application, be friendly and polite. Instead of asking, "Are you hiring right now?", ask "May I please have a job application?". Whether they are hiring or not, they have to give you an application and your timing might be just right because the manager wants to terminate an employee who is not working out. An insecure employee might tell you that they are not hiring when, in fact, the manager is hiring.

Once you fill out the application, be prepared for an on-the-spot interview. It might happen and it might not happen - leave the door open in case the manager wants to talk to you. If the manager does not interview you, try to get their name anyway. If you know that they are hiring, stop by or call every few days to see if there is still an opening. This will show persistence and a desire to work for them and it will keep you fresh on their mind. If you know that they are not hiring but you filled out an application anyway, drop by every 2 - 3 weeks to see if anything has changed. Also, when you fill out an application, do not put a dollar amount in the salary box asking how much you want to be paid. Instead, write "open". If the pay is not enough, you do not have to take the job. On the other hand, if you put $6.50/hour and they normally pay $6.75 per hour, they might get you cheap.

If you are granted an interview, remember to be polite, forthcoming and maintain eye contact. When the manager asks you a question, use "Sir" or "Ma'am" when answering your questions (unless they instruct you to use their names) as you will be addressing most customers by "Sir" or "Ma'am". Remember to look the manager in the eye when you answer his question. This shows that you care and you are interested in what is said. When you have the job, you also need to look the guests in the eyes.

As the interview winds down, ask the manager for a business card. If they do not have on, make sure that you get their first and last name. Once you get home, type up a quick thank you letter. This letter should thank the manager for taking the time to interview you and answer your questions. It should re-iterate why you feel that you will be a valuable asset to that company. Use bullets such as:
* I am very dependable.
* I am very punctual.
* I am great with customers ...
Anything that you feel will help you (as long as it is true) can be bulleted. Then close the letter with an acknowledgement that you hope to join that team and you look forward to hearing back from them at their earliest convenience.

Very few applicants take the time to send a thank you letter and it really does carry a lot of weight.

It doesn’t matter if you are applying for McDonalds, Barnes & Nobles, Claire’s, Nordstrom’s, American Airlines, Disneyland or the white house. Following those steps will greatly enhance your opportunities to get the jobs that you want. Who knows - you might actually get two or three job offers at the mall and you will be in the drivers seat to choose the job that you want.

Good luck and all the best to you!

It's not worth it. Though you can make good making being a companion to senior citizens. Not nursing duties. -light housekeeping -taking them out shopping - get paid to be their friend. Check with a human service agency. There is a need for help. Plus its not rude retail shoppers.

Hi..I would suggest getting dressed up real nice and than going to the places you would like to work. Ask to speak to the person in charge and tell them why you would like to work for them. Filling out an application would be required but I would suggest selling your skills to the person in charge. Remember.."Dress for success"..Good Luck

go to your favorite store and ask if they are hiring. they'll probably ask for you to fill out an application. call them 2-3 times a week to see if they have any availability. most employers are too busy to try and get ahold of you.
