The only thing I've found that works for mine is a hot wash cloth on my head and lying in the dark.

My wife has had massive migraines all her life. Finally after a lot of nagging she did a allergy test. She has a sever wheat, gluten and egg allergy and a mild dairy allergy. She would go to the hospital 3 to 4 times a year because they were so bad. Now having changed her diet they are almost gone. Only her hormone levels affect her headaches now and they are much more controllable and less severe. I suggest you start looking at a possibility that your headaches are the product of an allergy. Whats the worst that can happen you find out they are not and you have eliminated a major stumbling block into finding out what really causes them. Good luck. I hope you find an answer.

The biggest thing with migraines is to find your triggers and avoid them. Common triggers are caffeine, chocolate, aged cheeses, flourescent lighting, computer monitors...try and note when your migraines occur. The fixes for lighting triggers are very simple, usually - screen filters or tinted lenses on your glasses can provide instant reduction of episodes. As another poster noted, vasoconstriction is at the root of many migraines, but in some cases hormones can also be a contributing factor.

Lavender & peppermint oils are recommended, also clary sage. Do you happen to own a diffuser necklace? These can assist by keeping a mild scent going all the time.

Also, be sure to stay hydrated - my worst trigger is flourescent light, but it seems like my episodes increase when I don't get my H2O.

Hope something here helps - I know it gets desperate when you have headaches and don't want to keep popping pills.

Migraine is thought to be caused by an inappropriate constriction of the blood vessels in the head, followed later by a dilation of those same vessels. When the dilation occurs you feel the pain!

Cooling treatments aren't really a great idea, because they reconstrict the vessels - which may temporarily relieve pain - but it'll hurt like hell again when they re-dilate.

Some substances like caffeine have effects on vasoconstriction/vasodilation so these can actually excerbate the problem - avoid coffee!

The best treatments seem to be anti-inflammatories like aspirin and ibuprofen. I think this is one area where there truly aren't any convincing alternative therapies (unlike say nausea which can be combated quite well by ginger).

Lavender oil on the temples, ice on for 20 minutes, then alternate with heat for 20 minutes.

Lavender oil. Rub it on your temples and go lie down in a dark, quiet room. And a cold pack(but not TOO cold) for your eyes.

st.john's wort, lemon balm and chamomile tea can help. facial/cranial massage and a chiropractic neck adjustment are both good. i know it's not legal but...a medicinal amount of (one hit) smoking pot will take it away in seconds, (it relaxes constricted blood vessels) more than moderation here will create a worse headache for you, medicinal is the key.

if possible avoid light, place a cool wet cloth over your eyes, drink lots of water, lay down and rest in a quiet, darkened room
avoid alcohol and salty foods they are dehydrating and constricting

sometimes food allergies can cause migraines rather than stress, take note of what you have eaten before your headache occurred.

migraines are miserable and as crazy as it may sound they can be contagious in the sense that just thinking about one can cause one...it shows how much power thought can have on our health...keeping happy, calm and grateful thoughts add to a holistic approach for overcoming migraines

think well...be well
best to you

Perhaps it would be advisable to detemine what is causing it and have it treated. You are treating or attempting to treat the symptoms.. But it keeps coming back.. There is a specific causation and is treatable. With out meds.
