The ferry is great! If you board at Tacoma, go a little early, get your car in line, and go to the little bar on the pier. Their clam chowder is terrific. If you don't have time to hit the bar, don't despair. The ferry has great clam chowder also. There's windows in the cafeteria, and you can watch the scenery as you eat. When you return to Sea/Tac, you can either take the ferry, or drive around. It's the same time either way. The drive will take you over the Narrows bridge. If you're a history buff, do a google on "galloping gertie". The original Narrows bridge collapsed in 1941. If you find the right site, you can see video of the collapse.

The ferry ride to Bremerton is nice, but I prefer the ferry ride to Bainbridge Island. There's more to do on Bainbridge than in Bremerton, if you feel so inclined to get off the boat and wander around.
Seward Park is pretty nice, with a very good view of Mt. Rainier from it's south shore. If you are interested in hiking though, I'd recommend Discovery Park as an alternative to Seward Park.
Have fun!

For what purpose? The Seattle - Bremerton run isn't as quick & reliable as the Bainbridge Island - Seattle run. Prices rise & fall with the season. Walk on is cheaper. Nice winery tour 20 min walk from Bainbridge Island. Don't miss Ye Olde Curiosity Shop a couple doors down from ferry terminal in Seattle.
Seward Park walk is very nice. I remember poison oak, maybe they've cleaned that up now. They have outdoor concerts in the summer & you can watch the hydroplane races on Lake washington from the north side.

I love it. It's a nice way to sit and relax and prepare for a trip into the City- especially if you're going to be driving! I'd pack your own lunch, though- the food is expensive and not that great. If you're a tourist, they have huge stands with lots of brochures on things to do in the area. The Bremerton-Seattle ferry is longer than the Bainbridge Island-Seattle ferry, but if you live in Bremerton or you're going to Bremerton, it's not worth the half hour drive to Bainbridge just to save half an hour on the ferry. I love to take the ferry, and have considered doing it just for the ferry ride (I have 2 kids who also love riding the "big boat")
