the compressor is belt driven by the engine, the fans are all powered by the battery. the battery alone cant make them run continuosly or it will be dead for an hour or so. the ac system works only when the engine is running. when you turn on the ac, you will notice that the idle speed will go up a bit because of the additional load of the compressor. the alternator replenishes the power of the battery when the engine is running. the output of the alternator shoul be higher than all the lights, ac fans and all accesories combined if not the battery will be used up and and will not crank the engine once you stop and try to start the engine.

The A/C compressor runs off the belt driven by the engine and the fan runs off the electricity that comes from the alternator that runs off the belt driven by the engine (the same alternator that charges your battery), so everything you turn on in your car consumes gas to run.

i have examine some surveys on that situation and the outcomes were you're able to get more effective acceptable mileage with a/c off driving round city besides the undeniable fact that it did not really say how a lot. With the cost of gas you may favor to replenish and write mileage down and run a week or so with a/c off and do similar with a/c on and evaluate mpg. The survey did prepare there wasn't a lot differance at street speeds because the abode windows down interfered with the areodynamics of the motorcar.

A/C is driven by the belt, only when the engine is running. So, it will burn a bit more gas due to the extra load on the engine.:)

Yes, the compressor is driven by a belt, which means the engine runs it, but it only runs when the signal from the battery turns on the electric clutch, which means the battery also runs it.

It burns more gas because it engages another pump or condenser that adds additional drag on the engine. newer cars are far more efficient that older cars but the effect on gas consumption is still the same. Hope that helps.
