i understand what your saying, if someone moves to another country, they should know before hand what the customs are and if they disagree, dont move there. there is also the reverse, some can do no right because they come from a different culture. it all comes down to humanity, which seems to be a forgotten term. live and let live, as long as your not hurting anyone else. ignorance is no excuse for a crime. thats when they should be taken back to their country because thats probably why there in another country in the first place.

It's probably the first generation migrants. You don't expect them to completely forget about their own culture do you? This is exactly the kind of attitude that ghettosizes people. If you had a lot of white friends would it be called a white ghetto. Let me ask you if you lived in sydney and all through your growing up years you supported a local rugby team and then you moved to some other part of australia or for that matter south africa would you start supporting the local team there. The country they emigrate too in this case australia gains from the rich cultural heritage of other countries and it would do you more good to try to learn new cultures instead of wanting everyone to follow yours! Accepting citizenships does not mean giving up ethnic identity and cultural heritage. It means your allegiance is to the protection of that country. Nationalism is any ways an outdated idea these days become global "mate". I guess it's not false that the predominantly white population of australia is very racist. You just proved that! A "white only" immigration policy until 1977 australia still has a long way to go to improve inter race relations! Why is Australia not a republic, why does it have the union jack on it's flag. Is there still a "back in my Mother England" complex to be seen there?

I myself are Australian. Please tell me the Australian culture(bar the aboriginal culture)it is the people who came to this country that made the modern day Australian culture and you should embrace it.People come here for a better life.My husband my three children are from Ireland,my Nana is from Poland,my Poppa is from Russia. You can't expect people that here to just forget about who they are.Nest time you are speaking to a foreigner, have a little Patience, you just might learn something, even a new good recipe, you never know.

Pure ignorant people. Illiterate people. They do not deserve to be given the oportunity to live in a guest country. I was one of them. Lived 10 years in Australia, loved very much there. Became a citizen, always refer as "I am Australian, originally from Argentina". But very few did the same. I am 60 now, do you think I would be able to get a job, a general job with no much knowledge of trades. nnicq@yahoo.com

It's the same as if you relocated from Perth to Sydney, for example, you'd still call Perth "your" hometown.
But yes I agree that immigrants should make an attempt to understand the cultures of the places they are moving to and certainly should learn the language
