PAY... VERY... CLOSE... ATTENTION!

homophobia: irrational fear of, >>>aversion to<<<, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals

The American Heritage Dictionary (1992 edition) defines homophobia as "aversion to gay or homosexual people or their lifestyle or culture"

homophobia: an irrational hatred, disapproval, or fear of homosexuality, gay and lesbian people, or their culture

Why do you find it gross? Can you explain it, rationally? Not just "Eww, the thought makes me shudder", but a real, rational explaination?

People say you are homophobic because you haven't clearly stated your case. You just say it's gross and move on. That says that a) you are scared of it. Or b) you are just not wanting to know. Is it just the sex that "grosses" you out, or is it the whole concept?

Maybe if you could be a little more clear in your "disgust" it might help people understand you better and rid you of the homophobic label.

Because you are homophobic. You have a right to disagree with it but why is it disgusting just because they are the same sex? If you don't like the same sex how are you in a position to call it disgusting? It's like them calling heterosexuality disgusting just because that's not how they are. Calling it disgusting is being extreme as well.Try looking in a dictionary. Homophobic doesn't just mean fear it also means hate and contempt and you seem to have plenty of that what with you screaming it being gross. That's only your opinion a lot share it but a lot dont. Try growing up! Not everyones the same try and tolerate difference in others at least!

Homophobia, technically is the fear of homosexuals. However in modern times it covers so much more than just being afraid of them. It's not right to judge, belittle, demean, or shame anyone for feeling the way they've always felt. What you think is gross your brother and millions of other men think is beautiful. What would you say if the shoe was on the other foot. What if what you do is not the "norm?" How would you feel if everybody thought you were disgusting for what you do in the bedroom. It's just not fair to say something like that about something you know nothing about. It sounds like you never gave anal sex a chance. Try it before you start saying it's gross. It's not.

Hello - You have just labeled an entire group of people as disgusting. The current politically correct term for someone who is prejudice against the gay community is homophobic. If you just accept (you don't have to understand) what two consenting adults do in privacy is their business it will not be an issue for you. The gay people I know are only different from heterosexual people in the choice of gender the choose to form romantic relationships with. Judging an entire group of people by sexual preference is the equivalent of judging an entire group of people by their religion, race or country of origin. Your entitle to your opinion, but you should really look at where it coming from instead of trying to get support to justify it .

You need to learn how to say things in better ways. You come across as gruff and uncaring. You know you mean well but others won't.

If you talk like that around your brother he may take it the wrong way and you will alienate him. If nothing else for your brothers piece of mind I would adopt different words.

Rather than saying it is "disgusting" say "I just can't understand it" or "it is not something I can ever conceive of doing, but I love my brother".

Instead of saying what I think he does is "GROSS" say: "something I am trying to adjust to" or "something I would never do or concieve of" or "something I can't comprehend".

We don't expect you to fall down on your knees and worship how we were made. But we do want some common courtesy.

Let me take a wild guess. It is not JUST with your brother that you tend to shoot your mouth off? Could there possibly have been instances in your past when people have told you "it is not what you say but how you say it" or "you can catch more flies with honey" or "if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all?"

I thought so.

Now show some respect for your brother. He just came out and he is probably feeling vulnerable.

SUPPORT HIM!

If his own flesh and blood sister won't - who will?

You are right in that phobia implies fear; but the term has evolved to mean those who unreasoningly hate. The whole tenor of your question suggests that you do unreasoningly hate gay men for something that you will never be involved in - what they do in the privacy of their bedrooms.

I find it bizarre that anyone can be so prejudiced and so focussed on other people's sexual preferences. How can it possibly have any affect on you?

Gay men are the same (and as varied) as straight men - the only thing that differentiates them is their choice of partner.

Try not to dwell on a purely private aspect of people's lives, and instead focus on their behavior, morality, and contributions to society.

Because you are, darling. I'm proud of your brother for coming out(YAY for him!). You feel what you feel, but we're not disgusting, gross, or any other adjective you can think of. We're people, baby, and we put our panties on one leg at a time just like everyone else. To be honest, you just answered your own question.

Well, what would you call me when I say that I think having sex with men is gross? No, there may not be any fear involved, but you are against it, and there really is no othe word for that, so thats what people say.
