The best way is to make yourself look presentable and clean, always smile, and when in conversation, try to do more asking than talking, but if the subject comes around to yourself, be modest. Most importantly, stay true to yourself, and YOU be the one who reaches out! Keep old friends too.

That's easy. Consider two aspects:
1) Open up: Start talking, don't be afraid of talking with other people, even if you are the one that has to break the ice. Think of it as: you already have the "no", now try getting a ''yes''. Nothing to lose.
2) Just be yourself. If you're yourself, then people who like you for who you are, will notice you and start talking with you more and more often.
Just remember: Friends accept friends for who they are or what they do, no matter what. Just don't be a poser or anything and it'll all go smoothly.

Make eye contact, medium style clothing, listen, then repeat what they might have said (not exactly) to show that you were listening. Find something attractive about them, but wait till mentioning so you don't sound too eager. Repeat their name in the conversation. They will enjoy hearing their name. Of course, smile. Don't take anything personally but if they have questions, turn it around and ask them. Go slow. Have some mystery. Sometimes just smile at their comment or question. Write down who you meet as jotting notes to review later. YOUR EYES only and a great way of recalling, accurately. Have fun.

talking to people dont just stick with one group of friends thats how you end up being a loser and hating high school, trying to get into the popular crowd will only waste the precious time you have to be young. don't worry so much about making new friends if your a nice person youll make good friends.

Chances are, you aren't the only one at your school in that predicament. Be the first to introduce yourself to new people, before everyone starts settling into groups. As for your friends right now, there's always lunchtime if you don't see eachother in class.

I was woried about the same thing. But in no time at all, I had some neat friends. Its hard to do but just dont worry about it. I was up tight about everything and I live. No one really pays attention to you and everyone is thinking exactly what you are. You'll be ok.

You will still have your friends, you will see each other in the halls, at lunch, before school, after school, weekends.
You'll make friends in time.. Be yourself. Make eye contact. Smile. Be confident - even if you aren't feeling confident, fake it! People are attracted to confident people. :)
Have fun on your first day, you'll be just fine! :)
