Totally depends on the audience.
A non-Shakespeare initiated crowd will love Midsummer, it is perhaps one of the most accessible of Shakespeares plays. I thin thought that Julius Caesar is the better play, and if you have a savvy enough audience can be much more relevant for our times.

Hmmmm...Julius Ceasar. Definitely. Everyone loves drama and the play is just bursting with it. There's action, a little romance, betrayal...basically all a person wants to see in a movie. And at the end you're left with a feeling of satisfaction that all has been righted. Midsummer is just comic relief dressed up a bit. The fantasy might not appeal to many and unlike Ceasar there's no feeling like 'hey this happened'. With good actors/actresses, great directors, adequate screen writers and an able crew, it could be like "Troy". ^_^

First off, I'm going to say I'm biased, but I'd have to say Julius Caesar.
Our local university put on an adaptation of Julius Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra called The Romans. Very interesting to watch some of the characters evolve over the two plays. Plus everybody dies at the end which is always fantastic. As fun as Midsummer's might be, there's something striking about the story of a republic sustaining itself through war and how it has the tendency to glorify its leaders to the point of hero worship leading them to become dictators. Too bad Shakespeare has no relevancy in this day and age.

An audience is made up of many people. Some would enjoy one more, others the other. As to which one is better, that is a matter of opinion. If your audience is primarily younger, Midsummer is a much better choice as it is more comprehensive and visually captivating. Otherwise, it's pretty much your call.

I think, as many people before me have said, that it depends on the audience. If you're pandering to a more serious, adult, literary group, definitely Julius. It's one of my favorites and in my opinion, one of Shakespeare's best. But if you're looking for a more light-hearted, fun entertainment, then Midsummer. I've done that play in quite a few settings and it's always been wonderfully received. (Not to mention, I've performed Hermia's lines so many times I could do them in my sleep, but that's just an added bonus. :] )

A Midsummer Night's Dream because it is so verstile. If it is a younger cast performing, you can turn i into a performance set in a different era...make it extremely humorous...whatever you like!
Of course it is charming when it is old fashioned, but the sky really is the limit with that one!
Julius Caesar is too bleak.

Depends if it a serious crowd, do with Julius, but for a more fun, lighter atmosphere, go with midsummer.
