bluetooth is an option where you can connect a wireless headset to use your cell phone. In order to use it, you need to buy the wireless bluetooth headset. I have one and its really cool. you can leave your cell phone in another room and walk all over the house answering calls. When someone's calling you, the bluetooth headset will alert you by sounding a "ding" in your ear, and you simple answer the call by pressing the buttyon on the earpiece. you can also place calls from the bluetooth headset because it has voice recognition.

Bluetooth is an industrial specification for wireless personal area networks (PANs), also known as IEEE 802.15.1. Bluetooth provides a way to connect and exchange information between devices like personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile phones, laptops, PCs, printers, digital cameras and video game consoles such as the Wii via a secure, globally unlicensed short range radio frequency.

The name Bluetooth is derived from the cognomen of a 10th century king of Denmark, Harald Bluetooth. According to the inventors of the Bluetooth technology, Harald engaged in diplomacy which led warring parties to negotiate with each other, making Bluetooth a fitting name for their technology, which allows different devices to talk to each other.[1]. The name of the king in Danish was Harald Blåtand and the Bluetooth logo is based on the H and B runes.

Basically it makes you cell phone the base station and makes the ear piece the receiver. Bluetooth is secure so that no one can listen in on your conversation just like any other wireless phone. So to make it simple, you phone receives the call, and relays it to the ear piece, and vice/versa.
