Prostitution laws make murder easier: Forcing women to work in the shadows leaves them vulnerable to attack. In the United States, prostitution is legal in certain counties of Nevada. State law forbids counties with high populations from legalizing brothels, so prostitution is illegal in Las Vegas, Reno, Carson City and Lake Tahoe. Other counties may license brothels; street solicitation is illegal. Prostitutes are required to use condoms for all types of intercourse, and must undergo regular medical checkups. The rate of AIDS infection is nearly zero. Where prostitution is illegal, AIDS rates are often over 25 percent among prostitutes.Since counties began legalizing prostitution in the early 1970s, they have been reaping an economic benefit from a variety of brothel-related revenue sources, including licensing fees, property tax, work card fees and liquor licenses. In total the sources pump more than $10 million into county coffers annually, according to one state study.

Yes. It is the world's oldest profession...it isn't going anywhere and it is here to stay. It will take place with or without our consent. It is folly to think by making it illegal; they are somehow providing a deterrent...and it often leads to additional and far worse crime without any controls. As long as there are men who wish to partake in it; it will exist. Legalization would bring it out of the dark corners and into a contributing tax base with a lot less harm. This in turn, would permit Law Enforcement Agencies to concentrate on far more serious and violent criminal activity...and eliminate the illegal support industries.

The only problem I can see is that legalizing prostitution doesn't mean all prostitutes will act legally. What I mean is that some may choose not to use a condom so they can get more money out of it and others may refuse to go to their check ups. I don't agree with prostitution. I think it traps many hopeless women and young girls and makes them believe that they are only as good as their bodies. Plus they can't always get out of it easily. HOWEVER, it is going to happen. It has since biblical times and that won't change so why not get the girls off the streets and get rid of their abusive bosses and put regulations on prostitution to protect these girls. Good question.

If prostitution was made legal, don't you think we would have more trouble controlling STD's among other diseases? It would be plain stupid. If a person wants to sell themselves, the can go out to Nevada and work at one of the ranches. Unless things are set up likewise all over the country we would be asking for trouble. Enough prostitution goes on now, we sure as heck don't need to make it easier!

If you really think so then you should start to live in the stone age. How are you claiming to be more civilized after allowing such things. Sex and women's body are the element that are used to market the product from producers to consumers. They are just using such things to sell their product. You can't just say that these should be legalized because, we are claiming we are more civilized because we have been able to control such things. Also I'm sure you'd change your mind after observing the crime rate in those places where it is legal. It might be the oldest profession but it is the most ugly, unfair and uncivilized profession which spoils the youth and decreases the effciency of people.

Why can't you think of entertaining in other ways then sex? Why can't you sell your product for the benifits and goodness of your product why do you have to use girls for that? Don't you think that is spoiling the main idea of being modern?

Prostitutions has been legalized in only those places where there are trades that have to be made on girls or sex, like gambling or drinking bars etc. If you look carefully, only the things that spoils and only the things that destroyes the idea of civilization, only the things that people shouldn't be doing are involed with sex and prostitutions.

And also it is a totally unfair business, you can't make a price of a girl's body, or you can't make a exchange of such pleasure that involves love. If you can't buy mother's love then why are you trying to buy a wife's love? And if it isn't involving love then why are you trying to attract people to such pleasure?

Stupidity that's why, its not like its ever going to go away so they could at least make it safer. Actually I think the real reason is because even the politicians who see this are scared that standing up and saying it would be political suicide because of the " moral majority" ( which is neither moral nor a majority) lobby. I hear what your saying its the same here in Canada. Bottom line is sex trade workers die every year because of some peoples closed mindedness towards something that's as old as man. (well almost as old as man)

The spread of HIV and AIDS for starters and the fact that if prostitutes are getting beaten or killed that is usually, to most people in their right mind, a good time to stop. Although many countries make a lot of money off prostitution let me ask you this: if you ever have kids, how would you feel if their schoolbooks are paid for because of prostitution

Okay, lets examine some of the ramifications of legalized prostitution. Will it be against the law to discriminate against prostitutes? Will society be forced to regard them as "acceptable" people. Okay, if its fully acceptable then can a woman refuse to do it if her employer ordered her to do it? What if a husband or boyfriend needed the money and wanted his wife/girlfriend to earn some cash... What would be wrong with a father making some money off of his daughters? Do you see what is going on?

It is not up to America, ie the federal government. Talk with your state government. I agree, it should be legalized. Did you know Heidi Fleiss is planning to open The Stud Farm with male prostitutes. In Nevada of course.

Yeah, my husband says in Germany prostitutes can't work unless they have a card certifying their health. So stupid to waste money on legislating morality. Like sex is bad? It's the problems associated with sex that are bad, not the act itself. Sure seems dumb that you can poison yourself with liquor for entertainment with the sanction of your government, but you can't pay to get a little - that's morally wrong, apparently?
I just don't understand.

Because we don't legally own our bodies here. We even have to be careful what we think or say. Pro-choice folks and those who are for the legalization of recreational drugs should also join this fight if they truly believe what they say.

Have you ever noticed that it's legal to be promiscuous, just as long as you don't charge for it?
