Actually, there was some research done in the last two or three years that showed that prolonged use of hormonal birth control can actually SLOW the process of atresia and slow the aging of the ovaries, so women who have been on the pill are still able to conceive years later.

This was a great finding because one of the most awful myths about hormonal birth control is that many it causes infertility. Not true, especially with modern formulations of birth control! Still, many women shun birth control pills because they believe the myth.

The idea that bc makes you think you're pregnant is a half-truth at best. What it does is it keeps progesterone levels high and adds a dash of estrogen at the right time of the month. The timing and amounts of the hormones block the usual hormone cascade from triggering ovulation, so no egg is ever released.
