Tell your friend to not do anything drastic. She is only 14. Her weight depends on her body type, height, whether her frame is small, medium or large. Age alone is not enough to determine the healthy weight for her.

Some healthy tips I can pass along: drink water (I know everyone preaches about lots of water!) but you can jazz it up a bit by drinking flavored water (no calories, no fat, no caffeine) they are almost as good as a cola or soda and great in hot weather.

Be sure to read the label on drinks, flavored water and foods so you know what's in them.

Dance for exercise. It's fun and beats boring sit ups.

Chew sugarless gum to keep you mouth happy and help cut back on that urge to munch.

Remember that fast weight loss sounds fun, but hey, it leads to that icky flabby look, so lose slowly.

When I want to lose five or six pounds, I opt for a Slim Fast shake instead of a meal. The vitamins and minerals keep me feeling energetic and the added potassium is a bonus since I have low potassium to begin with.

Try to encourage your friend and be there for her.

Her weight may not be as bad as she thinks it is. When her school chums are wearing a size zero to 2, she will feel bad if she only wears a 4, regardless of her weight or actual size.

Yes, she's overweight. She's probably depressed and that isn't helping. She needs to get off her butt and go outside. Don't eat junk foods like candy and chips. And no soda. Have you ever looked at the calories on a soda?? She needs to learn how to read those nutrition panels on food. Stay away from everything made with syrups. Read the ingredients. The weight won't drop overnight, so she needs to be patient and work at it. You're a good friend for trying to help, but she needs to be willing to make the changes. You can't do it for her.

well if she is really tall then i guess shes fine. but usually is not a good weight for a 14 yr old. she can eat healthy and she can work out. Like she can walk places take the stairs ride her bike. things like that. she has plenty of time to loose the weight. Just get her some help if she is thinking about suicide.

Tell her to stop acting like a fat person and, go to the gym with her five days a week. Also, tell her that whenever she gets a craving, to go into the bathroom, strip, look at herself in the mirror and, honestly ask herself if she should be eating that gallon tub of ice cream.

She has to do it herself. Nagging her about her weight is really, really bad. Suggest she go to her doctor if SHE is unhappy with her weight. See if she wants to go for walks with you. But do not EVER make fun of her or tell her she's fat - it makes matters much, much worse. If she is depressed - and it sounds like she has problems in that area much worse than her weight - tell her she needs to talk to her doctor about that, too. She sounds at risk for suicide, so you should tell a parent or teacher immediately if she threatens to kill herself. The best thing you can do is let her talk and reassure her that you like her and say NOTHING about her weight. Once she beats her depression, her weight may go down - or not - but she will be healthier, and that is the important thing.

You are her friend and you care about her and you can be there for her but you are not the person to help her....she needs to talk to her mother about this. You're both children. Her mother is the person she can count on and who is mature enough to help her through this part in her life. Be a good friend and try to persuade her to talk to her mom.

it depends on how tall she is but i think that is a little too big for a 14 year old, but DO NOT tell her to have a eating disorder! good luck to your friend though!

She wants to die? Take a number and get in line. Tell fatty to start losing weight. Nothing more simple than that. It's about willpower.
