It is Forrest Gump's drill seargant.. but the drill seargant had asked him what is his purpose in the army and Forrest answered, "To do whatever you tell me to do, Drill Seargant?"

The drill instructor is responding to Forrest explaining that his purpose is to do whatever the drill instructor wants.

First of all, the character Sargeant Dan does not exist. He was Leutenant Dan. And he did not say the quote. The quote was said to Forest during basic training while he was assembling his gun, by his drill sargeant, who was a tall black man, not Gary Sinese.
