I live in New Orleans,La and want some ideas for vacations not too far away. Sort of like weekend vacations I can drive to that would be not too expensive and relaxing.

Try Hot Springs Arkansas, Vicksburg MS, Destin FL, Mobile AL, Dallas TX, Shreveport. Jefferson TX is a really interesting getaway - lots of B & Bs and beautifully restored large homes. Galveston TX is fun too.

Galveston would be fun - visit the shopping on the strand, enjoy the beach, Imax, aquarium, museums, ships, etc.

go to the ozark mountains outside of Little rock Arkansas, the weather will be cooler and the people are nice.

i dunno how far away it is, but i hear miami beach is pretty awesome place to hang out, so is key west
