Well, the fastest miles are run in less than 4 minutes, but 5 minutes is still fast. (My fastest in high school was 5:48 and I did a 5:15 in college in the 1500. Now, if you can keep up the 5 min. pace for 5k's, 10k's and the marathon, then you are truly fast!

5 days? You're out of time! Try this, I don't think it'll give you 1 minutes, but you can improve some Day 1 - run 1.5 miles, twice, with a 10 minute recovery/stretching between Day 2 - run 2 miles continuous. try to run a bit slower than your best time (15 or 20 seconds) on the first mile, then try to run the best mile you can for the second. Day 3 - sprint repeats. try to find somewhere that you can do 200 meter sprints, with a 200 meter slow jog to recover. you're aiming for running fast on the sprint at a consistent speed (no slowing down as you get tired!). try to do 6 or more of them. Day 4 - rest, no running. warm up and stretch good, and get a good night's sleep I did this assuming that you have to run the mile on day 5, if this isn't the case (you run it on day 6, meaning you've got 5 days to prepare), then put a 2 mile jog as your first day and move everything else down the list one spot. Don't forget to either select a best answer or edit your question in 5 days to let those of us answering know how you did!

5 Min Mile

That is really good! 5 minute miles convert to a pace of 12 miles per hour. That's even a decent pace on a bicycle!

Haha...Lexmoney is funny--in an ignorant way. Yes it is decently fast for a girl. I ran collegiatly and could do a mile in just over 5 minutes. Going under 5 is a good accomplishment for a collegiate female, but not good enough to win any big meets. Guys are definitely expected to go under 5, even in HS if they are decent. A girl at 5 min in HS is considered pretty good.

absolutely. I'd consider 6 minutes to be average and under 4 minutes to be olympic.
