What guild wars game should i get?

i heard there's like the original and like guild wars fractions and guild wars night-something

Or are they just like expansion packs or something?

Hi there

Ok there are only 2 Guild wars choices right now : 1. The prophecies campaign (The first and original game), 2. Factions. The 3rd campaign you heard of, is called Nightfall and is not out yet. It will be out soon though around September this year.

Although factions is an expansion of guild wars, it is also a stand alone game. This means, you can buy factions only and can still play the game.

I play both games and here is what I feel about the games.

Factions has 2 more professions than prophecies - The original campaign has Warrior, Ranger, Elementalist, Necromancer, Mesmer and Monk - 6 choices. In factions, u get to play all 6 plus 2 more: Assassin and Ritualist.

As far as game difficulty is concerned, factions is hell lot harder than prophecies. You get into the real serious quests right from the start whereas in prophecies, u get to a beginner's level commonly known as "pre-searing" where all the monsters are a lot easier to kill and you dont have death penalties etc. After that you go to the real game and the quests get somewhat harder but you can still do them with henchmen or alone. Forget going out alone in factions, you'll die very quickly. At beginning, you can still do the quests with henchmen but once you leave beginners' island, you will almost always need real players in your team.

Storyline:
I prefer prophecies campaign to factions. In short I think prophecies is focused more on the story mode (Player Versus Environment, PvE) whereas factions is based more on PvP (Player versus Player).

So to sum up, it depends what type of player you are. If you are the competitive sort, factions is the better game. If you want a game just to relax and to play from time to time, prophecies is better.

Note:
The game is called "Guild Wars". This means you will get into a guild. You can either make one of your own or join an existing one. If you plan to make one of your own, playing factions allows you to join a faction and to make alliances with other guilds.

Getting factions will allow you to enjoy all the available options but it can get quite stressful. Getting prophecies is good if you want to relax.

There are 3 Guild Wars games Guild Wars, Guild Wars Factions, and there making Guild Wars Nightfall. If u get factions u can go into factions and the normal Guild Wars worlds. As for Nightfall it hasn't been released so no clue there. Each one is a game no expansions. the game updates itself so.... GO WITH Factions!!!
