The hot wire to the pump probably has the coating damaged and the wire is grounding to the body. Trace all the wires going from the pump to where they terminate in the fuse panel if you can't locate a damaged spot, hire a mechanic. Good luck !

First unplug the fuel pump ( recheck)
Unplug the relay (recheck)
Then you'll have to follow the wires from the pump back to the fuse box to locate your short to ground.
Which ever component you unplug that fixes your problem. the short is located between the fuel pump and the portion unplugged.

Try to switch the fuel pump relay, with a similar one under the hood. And see what happens. If its good, then you know the relay was fried.

Circuit has a shorted ground or 12vt ... it needs to be tested by a mechanic that can trouble shoot it. Would take about 30min if you bring it to pep-boys. To know for sure a tech would have to trouble shoot it.

Good Luck
