You'll never find a website with that information. There was a poll done once last year (I think) on militarytimes.com (the four branches each have a non-government published newsmagazine called "Army Times" "Air Force Times" etc. and it stated in there that the majority do classify themselves as "conservative" (no party affiliation I believe). But they only had like 4,000 respondants and most of them were officers I believe so you really can't take that on any true authority. There was not enough participation in the poll.

That being said I can tell you that during the 2000 election I was stationed in Miami and in my office of about 20 people we had 9 folks who were going to vote republican and 9 who were going to vote democrat and 2 were undecided (this number includes civilians we had in the office who are DoD civilians and all four branches of service - it was a unified command). So it VERY closely matched the population at large. I have found - in general - that the military matches the general population in political leanings (this is a HUGE generalization).

Now let me caveat that by saying this: It does depend on the unit and the branch and most of the units I have been in the folks tend to be conservative politically.

Additionally, there are many MANY people in the military who will NOT discuss their political leanings with anyone. This is true with regards to rank. You will rarely (should never) hear a senior ranking officer talking about his feelings politically. Nor should you hear a senior ranking NCO talking about it with junior enlisted soldiers. But it does happen sadly.

Leogirl: Saying Democrats are anti-military is not cool. I'm a Democrat and I was in the Army. The same goes for both of my grandfathers, both Democrat, both military. My Dad was military and Republican (I guess it skips a generation, haha. My kids will probably be Alex P. Keaton types). That makes the count in my family 75% dem/military. John Kerry and Al Gore both saw combat in Vietnam as well.

Interested: You ever sat in an O.P., been shot at or had to return fire? No, didn't think so, you don't know what you are talking about. You must have been in Bush's unit. By the way, there's no such thing as a well protected combat photog. Many, many of them have died in service since WWII.

The number from leogirl is a poll taken by readers of a military magazine.....

a poll by readers.

that sort of dihonesty pisses me off.

The military is like america made up mostly of middleclass and poor kids who need money for college.

it is made up of Blacks, Latino's, Whites.......from all walks of life.

This idea that the Military makes you republican is so silly, that generals want more money for the military,yes.....that some soliders want more military spending yes.....

that there can be a discussion or how much to spend between peace and war time is the issue.
or investing in better weapons...yup.

this fiction though needs to be exstinguished.
