Each school has its own rules, so check with the admissions people (or look online). Some will have a minimum score to get in and others will consider the ACT (or SAT) plus the grade point average and class rank (what number out of how many in your graduating class). Some will want letters of recommendation from teachers and/or your counselor. Still others will require entrance essays, which may count more than the standardized test score. It can be a mixture of any of these things.

In other words, check out the schools you're interested in for their rules, and study hard but don't get too wrapped up in the ACT.

PS Years ago, you took the test once, and those who took it a second time were unusual. These days, everyone takes it 2-4 times. The average score has risen over the years but that doesn't mean people are smarter, just that the test and the process has changed.

Average national composite score 20.9, in 2004

Most universities require scores of 18 or higher, but some have no admission requirements based on the ACT, so you can get in with any score, depending on your university. You may have to get a 20 or higher to progress within your Major field. With education that was what some people had problems with. They took all the classes they could up until they started their "teaching" field courses, and they had to keep retaking the ACT because they couldn't get a 20 or higher.

I had 28 on science and 26 on all the other parts.
