I want to totally erase my computer and start fresh. I am giving it away and want to clean everything out.
How do I do it?

if you set your computer to boot from CD and then insert your OS cd (windows, mac, linux, w/e) you can go through their steps and reinstall the OS. eventually you will get to a screen that asks you about hard drive partitioning. Delete all the partitions you see (this will completely erase your hard drive) and create a new one, thus reinstalling your OS and wiping everything else.
Hope this helps!

Put in the operating system CD, ie Win XP or Win 98 ect... shut down your computer, reboot and it should start loading the disk. Select reformat harddrive.

Good luck.

Go into set up, type reformat at the prompt. be sure you have the disks for reinstalling windows because that will be gone too!

You have several options;
* restart pc with Windows CD in and follow normal settup procedures.
OR
*If you want to give it away without leaving your docs in there or anything that belongs to you. Sign in as the pc administrator and delete your current profile. path= c:\documents and setting\yourprofile\
