Learn your craft: Learn how to READ music, how to harmonize
with others. This is most easily done by joining a choir or chorus.

As you progress in school, there should be better and better
courses offered to you in different types of music, etc. At the
college level, you could go to places like Juliard which specialize
in music theory, etc.

If you are spectacularly gorgeous and have the right kind of
voice, it is possible that somebody might descend from
the entertainment industry and take you away from all this -
but it will be because you are gorgeous and can sing, not
because you can sing and are gorgeous.

If you like singing rock & roll, then you should see if there
are any local bands starting up. You may have to start one
yourself - go see if there are people around you who
are interested in playing some of the other instruments.

None of the performing arts are guarenteed money makers.
You need to be talented *AND* lucky. Most of the people
who do them do something else to actually pay the bills.

They do it because they love it and can't imagine not doing it.

A very small percentage of people doing this actually get
enough money to pay the bills. The number of people who
actually get rich doing it are less than a thousand across
the entire country.

Order some backing tracks of the songs you sing well. There are always recording studios locally, save up a few pennies and record your tracks and then pass them around for as much feedback as you can get. Playing live is also a must too,

Learn to create a coherent thought on paper, then go to MySpaceMusic. Get Sony ACID Music and a POS computer mic. Read the manuals.

Go.
