Why isnt the lebanese army fighting off the Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon? We hear a lot from attacks from the Hezbolah milita but practicaluy nothing about the national army. Are they holding back for some reson?

The reason the Lebanese Army has not taken any action is because it does not want to be at war with Israel. Lebanon has been practicing respectable restraint because Israel has attacked the entire country indisciminately and not merely Hezbollah. Of course, Lebanon could not effectively stop Israel. Israel is way more powerful and has an endless supply of emergency military equipment from the US. Still, the main reason Lebanon has not officially engaged, is because it does not want escalation and even more widespread killings and destruction by Israel. The Lebanese officially have wanted Hezbollah to disarm and needed help from the International community to disarm them. The world asked the Lebanese to disarm Hezbollah but left the Lebanese Army without help to do that, even as it was weakened by 17 years of civil war and 20 years of occupation by Syria.
Idiots should not answer serious questions like this. People are dying. I am talking about the person who said somethng about the Lebanese religion. Truly ignorant. Lebanon has almost 20 recognized religious sects and the its Army is secular.

Actually from what I understand from todays acceptance of the cease fire, lebanon will take a leading role in the ending of Hezbollah. See, that is where alot of peoples confusion came from. Isreal was not attacking Lebanon, they were attacking Hezbollah. The people of lebanon finally figured out if they want to stop the Isreali bombings they need to take a proactive approach of ridding the country of the militant group.

Lebanon does not support the Hez. Before Israel attacked the Hez in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese Army was very ineffectual, and still are; although now they're trying to gird up their loins and grunt a little to give themselves courage to counter the Hez.
We'll see.
