When Countdown first started on YTV it had a few girls doing the letter and the numbers. It would have one girl for each of them and then when it went to Channel 4 they used to 2 girl system for a while then it was a week about with Carol Vorderman and another woman who I cant remember her name but she had short curly blondeish hair. Then it just stuck with Carol Vorderman. My grandad moaned like mad about it because he prefered the other one cause she had more shape to her than Carol! lol....OMG I sound like a really old fart now!! I am only 33 honest, I just got a good memory for daft things like that!!!

nah carol smiley did that Wheel of Fortune with Nicky Campbell, she never been on Countdown as a hostess. Even though Carol Smiley is a member of MENSA she very clever lady.

Channel 4 started up on November 2, 1982. and count down also started on that date, and carol vordeman was on count down from the very first show back in 1982....
