Also, who is mainly to blame for terrorism? Why are they doing it?
Are they really what they say they are?
Are the motivations different from what they say?
Is the media's portray of them accurate?

Unjust policies by the western world (biased against Muslims).
Misinterpretation and/or intentional twisting of religious teachings by certain Muslims

People have the motivation (usually religion or political unrest), and the means (a few thousand bucks to buy supplies).
Islamic terrorism happens far more frequently than any other type of terrorism (over 5,500 deadly attacks since September 11, 2001). The reason this is is becase Mohomed (the original) led his followers into war against those who didn't accept his message. The Muslim terrorists today say they are following in Mohomed's example, and they are correct. The media falsely portrays them as being heratics, but they actually live within the true meaning of Islam.

"Bowling Cap" is very close to the answer. Terrorism is a systematic use of violent and destructive terror tactics in attempt to coerce others to grant a group's demands. It is not a military action sponsored by a state. It exists as a tool for groups that cannot change opinions through political discourse.
Today's world is seeing near daily terror attacks by followers of Islam. These folks use their literal interpretation of the Koran to explain their actions. They envision a world ruled by a Caliph (or successor to Mohammed) and governed by Sharia Law (or Islamic Law based on the Koran). Jihad (Islamic Holy War/Struggle) is their way.

If you want an answer without opinion, your logic must be completely accurate. In order for that to happen, you must define your terms.
Define exactly what you mean by "terrorism", and you'll have a better chance of finding out what causes it.

Terrorism existed because there are people who wanted to demand issues not in the proper forum but through violence in order to show what they want and to catch the attention of the world.
