You are so right. Some people need to read up on Ben Gurion.

Just seen an amazing speech by Kofi Annan - OK, debatable whether he would be classed as a politician, but it was full of honesty, humility and humanity. He said how shameful it was that it had taken so long for the UN resolution to be drafted....also said that war is nothing other than a catastrophic failure of the political process.
Extremely powerful and very moving.

The statement is not honest. It is incorrect. The United Nations ceded the land to Jews who wanted to live there. Ask yourself who owned the land before the Arabs took over. You have to go all the way back to Abraham, the first one to move into the area and take over.
Jews, Hebrews trace their history to the land for about 5,000 years before Islam was created by Mohammad.
How many citizens of the US would be willing to move out to return our country to the original natives? Probably none.

What year was that? I think that was profound. I guess modern polliticians lack logic. It is that way with the current usa govt. It does not make sense. Wow that was really interesting. Could we just put a giant spacer in the middle east and spread out the land so there was enough land for everyone? Nahh that would be too easy. It would be nice if God would do that. We need a miracle. About now would be nice. How about plenty of fertile land for everyone?

Do you really think that was an example of honesty? It was clearly a negotiating position. It fooled you, so perhaps the question should be, why are modern politicians so transparently dishonest?

Because its more important in American politics to be popular than right. Being truthful and right doesn't secure your power base.

I don't think honesty is on the job description. There are dirty politics, there are dodgy politics but honest politics - aw come on!!!

Because he didn't care who he pissed off, especially since the people that he offended in that statement weren't living in his country.
