Actually, you misinterpreted the definition. Serendipity - "things not sought for" this means that you found something that wasn't currently being searched for. It's a fortunate accident like discovering something that wasn't planned. Columbus discovering America. He was searching for another land when he happened on the Americas. So, Serendipidy actually means something good.
