Well, it depends. I bought my fisrt motorcycle at 16 and my first car at 20. I have to say than riding motorcycles is a blast but when it comes to practicality it's way behind, i'm not even talking about having going to work when it's raining like crazy. If I were you, I would buy a cheap dependable car, like a used Honda civic and save some cash to buy a nice bike later on. Like that, you'll have the best of both world.

Any first vehicle for a 16 year old should be a beat up, old car. 90% of you wreck it within the first year, and cars are much safer than motorcycles.
You are all still learning to drive, even after you pass the drivers tests. Think about a better car or motorcycle after 2-3 years of driving.

I guess it depends on what you want to use your transportation for.

If it rains alot or gets icy where you live, then having a motorcycle could be pretty miserable if you need to use it to get to work every day, in this case a car is more practical.

If its dry mostly, then a bike is cheaper and a lot more fun.

If you are only using it for leisure, a bike wins for fun, but a car is good for shopping trips and going out with friends.

You can always carry a special someone on a bike, and its a good excuse to drop hangers on if you need to ;)

Both are okay for a 16 year old to get. Because either way you are just going to do stupid sh*t in or on it anyways. Hell atleast this way doing something stupid on a motorcycle, if you crash you will mainly just hurt yourself, unless someone is actually riding with you. In a car you can damage a lot of other people.

So yeah get a bike man, and have fun on it. ; )

I agree, a car would probably be a good move for a 16 yrs old. But if you're looking to save some money on gas then motorcycle is ok..

well, clearly motorcycles are the better value in terms of gas, price for vehicle. Also, you can go in the carpool lane and parking should be a snap if you go to college.

however, no one wants to be on a cycle when it is raining, when there is traffic, or at night. And you will not be able to haul around things or people.

I'd get a civic and a cycle.

a car. I am a motorcycleist and I can tell you from a statistical point of view men under 25 y/o are far more likely to get into a serios crash.I would wait until maybe 25 especially if this would be your primary trans.Take the motorcycle saftey course asap.

A bike..... has to be.... at 16 who doesn't want a bike.... sod the weather, sod kevin & trace in their blingmobile - get a bike, learn to ride it, get a bigger one learn that, then get a bigger one & show two fingers to every bloody car you will ever meet on the road... done deal, nuff said....
Except - don't get a car first then in10 years when you've got a bit of extra dosh get a bike... you'll jump the learning queue & end up killing yourself.... start now!

well if it doesn't rain much by u, i would go with a bike. pref a kawasaki 750 gsxr, good bike for starting out. but a car is a bit more comuter friendly. u may not want to ride a bike to work everyday if its a long comute. if u go for the bike see if u can get into a riding course, it'll save u $$ on ur insurance and teach u to be a better rider.
