ok how were the church and state(goverment and relgion) interwined in New England and in the middle colonies?

i have some what of an idea, but i can't seem to find the answer i need.

It kind of matters in what era you are referring to... I assume early colonial days.


The Europeans coming to America were frequently trying to escape tyrrany in England. Therefore they were hesitant to set up governments which may lead to more tyranny. However, despite this fear the governments which formed were quite intertwined. The Puritans were the most prominant example of this fact.

If you have your book already there is probably a good chapter or two on religion's impact on american society and government. If not... try your library or the web (just remember that the web may not be very reliable).

Think about things like the salem witch trials. New England's government in the early days from around the 1600s till much later in the 1700's The laws of the colonies were basically based off of the bible.
