Hmmm. That a interesting question. I think its because if the person your "crushing" on doesn't like you back then they're crushing your heart or your feelings.

of feelings & thinking .... Everything is closing in on

Your heart is what gets crushed. It hurts when you fall in love and then have to let it go. It is like a baby being torn away from its mother.
