I havent had my period since Jan. I'm not pregnant, I'm not on Birth Control, don't have a Thyroid problem and I don't think I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). I started working out in Feb. I go to the gym 5 days a week for 1 to 2 hrs a day; & havent lost any weight since then. Could not having my period be a result of not being able to loose weight? Fact being that my body is out of whack, I'm inbalanced, or maybe my body isn't producing enough estrogen. Can anyone help me?

PLEASE NO SMART A$$ COMMENTS EITHER

I'm 5'3" 168lbs. more muscle than fat however. My Body fat % is not that low to not have a period. Unfortunately I gain my weight in my middle.

It's not uncommon for women who change their activity level dramatically to have changes in their cycle. Working out five days a week for that long of a time could be doing it... they've often found a connection between low body fat/excessive physical activity and lack of menstruation. Also, instense times of stress have been known to throw the cycle out of whack.
However, that's a very long time to go without a period. I would suggest getting to the ob/gyn. They can run a few simple blood tests to check your hormone levels and help to fix the problem. You never know if it could be the symptom of something more serious.

It can be for different reasons ... but they don't need to be bad all the time. My sister (perfectly normal, healthy) has the same thing. There were times she didn't have her periods for 6 months. Sometimes they came and than disappeared again for two months. She just went to the doctor and nothing really severe was wrong with her. It's just how she is -- her periods aren't regular like other women. Now she takes birth control so that her periods come every month. That's what happened to her.
She might get problems having children later in her life, but that is only due to the fact that in this situation it's just difficult to know when you ovulate.

Anyway, it worried her too for a long period of time before she went to see a doctor. Go, and they will reassure you, I'm sure ..

You don't mention your height and weight. Your workout program sound extreme; you may not have lost weight but you have very likely lost body fat as you build muscle mass (muscle weighs more than fat). If you are very lean, lack of body fat could cause amenorrhea (cessation of menstruation). Check with your doctor since this is not normal.

Excessive exercise can cause you to have an irregular or no period. It happened to my friend. She played basketball and ran, lifted weights, and played all the time. She told me about it and researched it and it was because of so much exercise.
There are more symptoms to PCOS.... don't worry, just ask your doctor.

You should go to the doctor and have the doctor check your estrogen levels. High levels of estrogen can make you gain weight. Good luck
