There a lot of films that tell a lot of different stories of WWII. Here are my favorites: Casablanca, Schindler's List, Bridge Over the River Kwai, The Thin Red Line, U-571, Life is Beautiful, English Patient, Das Boot, Saving Private Ryan

"The Longest Day"
"Bridge over the river Kwai"
"The Battle of Midway"

We've had some blockbusters recently ("Saving Private Ryan"),
but I really don't think they compare - simply because they aren't
part of the genre.

I know, I know: How can a movie that is about a subject
be not part of the genre of movies about the same subject.
Well ... If I tell a detective story set in the 40s, but the
detective is a chimp on roller skates, I am NOT doing
noir, right?
