My speedometer cable is making a high pitched whining noise I unscrewed it from the speedometer because that is were the noise is coming from, I think the skinny cable part which has ridges on it like a file and turns around when I spin the front tire Is were the problem is at. When I screw it on to the speedometer I think it is rubbing on something in there. How do I fix it? Please help.
It has never made this sound before, I just put a new front tire on and soon after is when the noise begun but I don’t see how that could be the reason. If you need further info. please ask and I will tell.

Pull the inner cable and clean it with a solvent such as carb cleaner. Then use graphite to lube it up and reinsert it into the outer case. This should solve your problem.

Put it together again real carefully, and make sure the cable goes into the little square hole in the connector. Check both ends. If it isn't seated properly it will make noise. Your speedo will work, because of the friction, but may not be accurate. Use the lube specified in the owner's manual or engine oil. WD-40 is too light.

I'd try lube first, if that fails, then a new cable may be necessary.

Also, check that the cable isnt fouling anything or has gotten kinked
