Well do you want the on the record answer or off the record answer. On the record, research shows that feeding a baby before 4-6 months (which I am assuming your baby is or he would be eating it off a spoon) can lead to obesity and type 2 diabetes. It is also proven in research that cereal in the bottle does nothing to help a baby sleep. Now, off the record, many moms do this if their baby seems unusually hungry between bottles. Some say it helps kids sleep through the night-it never worked for mine-kids need to be developmentally ready to sleep for long periods of time before they can actually accomplish this. Good luck!

It's a choking hazard, babies are more prone to allergies and it's just plain cruel to give a baby solids when all they need is formula or breastmilk. Get a doctor that knows what they're talking about and don't give in to that advice unless your baby has reflux. And don't give in to the ridiculous answers from some people on here who obviously don't know how to properly care for a baby. I think it's bad parenting to try to shove so much in a baby's mouth to shut them up and not eat as often. Babies stomachs are so tiny and all they need is their milk. After a few months they can be fed cereal through a spoon like a normal human being. These parents feed their kids like their animals..jeez get a clue.
If these dumb parents bother to do the research, they will know how much formula you should give at a certain age to get the appropriate nutrition. Giving cereal in a bottle cuts that because they fill up quicker. And just because they drink all the rice filled bottles doesn't mean they are getting the nutrition they need..it's filled with cereal and their little bodies don't get the nutrients they need. Again please don't listen to these half wits. They have no clue no matter how many kids they have.

Here is the truth...You can. This is your baby do want you want. when My son was 3 months I had so many people telling me to put baby cereal or rice in his bottle at night to help him get full. I asked allot of my friends and other people and they said NO! I asked the pediatrician and she said to wait until he is older, and she failed to tell me the reason WHY. I went ahead and did. He loves it and sleeps so much better, and he is allot happier with a full belly! I think that the older generation parents did this often, and we all turned out Just fine! I have been feeding my baby cereal and we have had no problems! He is actually happier. This is your baby do what you want!

Always ask your pediatrician. My son gets cereal in his formula ONLY because he has reflux, and his doc doesn't like to medicate babies unless it's the last option. If he/she is doing fine with just formula, it should stay that way. But if he/she spits up at every feeding, tell the doc. That's one of the signs of reflux. But if you feel that they're just not getting filled up, tell the doc that as well. Some babies can't digest the rice cereal very well, and your doc can give you many many options to help.

Babies are born with a wonderful mechanism for knowing how much food they need. During the early months, they take their cues from the volume of what they drink. Adding cereal derails this mechanism. It forces them to take in deceptively large amounts of calories. It teaches them to overeat.
By starting with a spoon, resting between bites, and stopping when your child lets you know he’s full, you will be laying an excellent foundation for good eating habits throughout his life.
Scientists at the Cleveland Clinic studied the effect of cereal on sleep and found that adding the cereal did nothing at all to speed up the age of sleeping through the night. That first uninterrupted 6-hour stretch of sleep came no earlier in those who took cereal early.

Babies need to learn how to push the food into the back of the mouth, sucking from a bottle requires a different set of muscle groups, so you can hinder his development. Also it tends to make a baby eat more than necessary which can lead to poor eating habits.
Also if the baby is under 4 months his stomach may not be able to properly digest the cereal, talk to your baby's doc

I just read that the baby could choke or gain weight too fast. Also, it depends on the kid, but normally, babies have to learn to chew and get rid of the thrust reflex, so at about 4,5, or 6 months, you introduce runny rice cereal-about 1tbs of cereal to 3 tbs of water or formula or breast milk, gradually reducing the amount of liquid.

Following your pedaitrician's advice is best as they will know what age is best to introduce baby to rice cereal. Putting rice cereal in a bottle is not recommended. It is not safe. Baby can choke as baby may not be old enough to thrust it back into the throat and swallow properly the rice cereal. Best to follow pediatricians recommendations. Hope this helped!

Depends on how old the baby is. If they are older then 4 to 6 months then there's no reason why you shouldn't. If they are younger then 4 to 6 months, it's because their digestive system isn't developed enough to handle solids. It can cause gas, constipation, and colic. It can also lead to your child developing food allergies.
I waited until 6 months to give my children rice cereal.
