The needle might get clogged up from a previous excicution - if your injecting into some1, that needle is going into the arm and could get cloged by skin cells therefore you wouldnt be able to administer the right dosage to the next person. Plus the people administering them might get infected too if pricked by one.....

Because they get the needles the same place every other hospital and doctor's office does. From a maker of sterile needles like B-D. Plus, the person administering the injection is vulnerable to whatever is on the needle before and after the injection. A sterile needle protects the user from infection before the skin of the inmate is punctured.

All neddles manufactured for injection are sterelized. All needles that have been used now have active safety devices, which means they are automatically covered when taken out of the arm. If not, the must still be disposed so as not to infect the person doing the sticking. Soooooo, since all the dirty ones are thrown away to protect DR.'s nurses. phlebotomists, labe techs and the like, and all new needles, which is your only option you have left, are sterile, this is why Lethal injections are given with sterile needles.

That's because of they don't sterilize the needle if they do an autopsy they can get sued because the victim didn't die of a lethal injection.

But really i don't think they actually do lethal injections i think they just tell the person it is and they die on there own so they clean the needle to prove they had nothing to do with it

Probably medical ethics .

Also think of the possibility of this ......

An infected needle may harbour bacteria that affects how the administered drug works , and if this were to make a quick painless death into a slower painful death , surely that would be considered as torture. Dont forget that many human rights campaigners believe that murderers shouldnt have their lives taken away because that would make us as bad as them.

I dare say the injection is administered by a medical person and it wouldn't be in the best interests of the condemned to give them a nasty infection.

I expect the real answer is: where the hell do you get unsterilised needles, perhaps there is a marketing oppertunity to supply unsterilised needles especially for the execution market.

Because it would probably be criticized as cruel and unusual. What are they going to do anyway? Save old needles to use for executions? Probably more of a hazard to the medical staff that way.

They dont make special needles for death row, Im sure they are just ordered in a box, and taken from a distributers warehouse shelf, and the box next to them may go to your local hospital.

It may have to deal with liability insurance incase the person lived through it.
That way they could not come back and sue the state for a disease that may or may not have been from the needle.

To try to be humane and appease the non-death penalty people. Personally, I think we should go back to drawn and quartering the death row guys. In case you didn't know, drawn and quartered is where you tie a rope to each arm and leg of the condemned, then each rope is connected to a horse, and the 4 horses run in 4 different directions.
