seems extremly odd to me that they animate their people as non asians.....josh

Japan has some odd social issues with dipicting their own culture, and their own apearance. I think it is that they always draw the big eyes and that makes the characters not seem as asian anymore even if they are supose to be. I think it had something to do with european/american cartoons were the first the country was exposed to and it stuck so to change the chracters into more asian looking characters people might not want to see since they are use to people looking a specific way.

I thought it was odd as well. I think that Japanese people should make their characters and animations look more realistic and true to life. I love the Japanese and think that there are a lot of things in their culture that are wonderful, but Anime and Manga are not on my list or things that I like, because their is no heart or soul in them.

I would like them to look more aisen, but not all of them! that would be helluh boring if everyone had brown and black hair and little eyes, plus most evil characters have little eyes. Before Japan opened up, maybe they thought that they had big shiney eyes sometimes. I still love anime the way it is though. :)

it's because of an influx of characters like Betsy boo in the post war years. I'm not shear how it happened but sins then characters with small eyes are generally considered untrustworthy. they make the hare different and sometimes unnatural (green, blue) colors to make it essayer to tell the characters apart.

So they will appeal to Europeans as well, and they can sell their comix/movies/video games to the whole world instead of just Asian markets.

They're trying to show diversity of characters.
I mean really, if they just had all black haired asian characters how would anyone tell them apart.
So they use multi-colored hair, diff hair styles, body types, etc to define each character.
