Ingredients for American Baby Formula: Blind patriotism, conformity, nervous system restructuring devices for working long hours, brain-shrinking chemicals for intolerance and egocentrism, proteins to build forearm muscles for future flag-waving, gut-extender for future domestic beer consumption, lots of sugar, grease, and caffiene, and some other stuff.

Mainly because breasts have been over sexualized in America. Some people have a hard time seeing them as a way to feed a baby.
Just like anything else, nursing takes some time to get used to...but the rewards are well worth it. My youngest child Breast fed for a year. She didn't get an ear infection until she was 3 years old. While my 13 year old didn't nurse, and she had them all of the time. Coincidence? I don't think so.

If I ever got stuck having to have a baby, I wouldn't breast feed either. Nor would I milk myself. Unless you have to, in which case it would be silly not to save it.
It's because I'm not a cow, and I don't feel it's natural to be a food source. Oh, I know it IS, but it doesn't feel natural to me.
Good thing I've chosen not to have kids, right? (Shudder)
That's the great thing about America. We still have a choice in many things. At least for a few years yet.....

You can't generalize that all American girls do this. I used to pump at work and get nothing because I was stressed out at work. It would help if women didn't have to work outside the home and concentrate on being a mother at home to breastfeed around the clock but maybe American society doesn't value that arrangement?

We have this obsession in America for nice, pert, big boobs. Breast feeding causes breasts to get more saggy, so women are afraid to breast feed cause it makes them less attractive. Plus many men actually get jealous of their baby breast feeding, they think the boobs belong to them so they complain about it, seriously ugh. And in our culture we don't like to see what boobs are really for, to feed babies, we only want to think of them as sexual things. So people freak out when they see a mom breast feeding in public. We need to change the way we look at and think about boobs and motherhood. Oh, and alot of mom have to go back to work right after having baby, and that makes it hard to breast feed.

Have you ever had a hungry baby suck all the skin off of your nips? It's awfully painful after a while and in some cases women may have to take medications that can be tranferred to the baby through breastfeeding. Some women don't always lactate. It's not always as easy as it may seem.

in my bcase i could not produce milk, my body just won;t produce it. As for women being selfish for choosing not to, ultimately it is their own personal choice. Formula may not be as nutritional for children, but formula is getting better and better with their closeness to breast milk.

Not all women can lactate (produce breast milk) or lactate *enough* to feed their baby. This was true in my case. Also, some women are taking medicine that is passed through the breastmilk and could harm the baby. As for the women who just choose not to...I think that's selfishness.
