Hmmm, it MAY be your software. *IF* you are using DVD burning software that CAME with your computer it most likely is a "sample" version that usually LIMITS the writing speeds to the lowest speed (or close to it).
The idea is to get you use to their prgram in hopes you're buy the "Full version".

It depends on what you were burning and how you burned it. If you were burning video files as a watchable DVD, then the length you described sounds about how long it would take your computer to encode the video files before burning. With an 8x dvd r it should be faster, which is why I think maybe you were making a watchable video file.
If this was a data burn only (so you could put the dvd in a computer and access files from it) then you may also check your burner software to make sure it wasn't doing the VERIFY AFTER BURN option...that can slow it down some.
Also make sure your disks are 8x disks, if they are 1x or 2x or even 4x then the burner can ONLY burn as fast as the dvd is capable of, and the software will auto detect and change the burn speed for that session when it gets ready to burn it.

some DVD gamers, greater so the newer fashions, can examine laptop correct documents at the same time with MP3, photos etc. those would be examine off a CD. A DVD must be burned by using DVD burning utility to a DVD disc. (they look the comparable yet they are not) basically copying the MPEGs without putting them by using a DVD burner utility and shutting the DVD (ending) won't paintings on all gamers.

not enough memory avail to the CD burning software. it has to compile the ISO and then burn it to the cd, its most likely running into the problem during the creating of the ISO stage. it stores the ISO image in RAM, and reads from it section by section as it writes to the CD. so if you get more RAM, you should see an increase in speed. the burner probably writes fast, its your pc that cant keep up. also, make sure you are using a higher qualtiy of CD, you may be using some crappy DVD's that your burner doesn't like working with.
