Mist by Stephen King. The audiobook
Sound so visual you're literally engulfed by its bonechilling terror! Stephen King's sinister imagination and the miracle of 3-D sound transport you to a sleepy all-American town. It's a hot, lazy day, perfect for a cookout, until you see those strange dark clouds. Suddenly a violent storm sweeps across the lake and ends as abruptly and unexpectedly as it had begun.
Then comes the mist...creeping slowly, inexorably into town, where it settles and waits, trapping you in the supermarket with dozens of others, cut off from your families and the world.
The mist is alive, seething with unearthly sounds and movements. What unleashed this terror? Was it the Arrowhead Project -- the top secret government operation that everyone has noticed but no one quite understands? And what happens when the provisions have run out and you're forced to make your escape, edging blindly through the dim light? The Mist has you in it grip, and this masterpiece of 3-D sound engineering surrounds you with horror so real that you'll be grabbing your own arm for reassurance. To one side -- and whipping around your chair, a slither of tentacles. Swooping down upon you, a rush grotesque, prehistoric wings. In the impenetrable mist, hearing is seeing -- and believing. And what you're about to hear, you'll never forget.

I would love to see the Dark Tower made into a movie, but for now I will have to wait on the comics that Marvel is putting out next year.
I think From a Buick 8 would make a good movie, and also The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. It would also be nice to see all of the Nightmares and Dream scape stories made into like a creep-show movie.

The Dark Tower Series
Rose Madder
The Dark Half
The Eyes of the Dragon
The Tailsman
Black House
Insominia
Also Bag of Bones, but supposedly it will be made into a movie.
Film rights for Bag of Bones have been optioned. MGM will be distributing this as a theater release. Bruce Willis is the Producer.

There are a lot of answers here that mention books that are movies. Check out http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000175/ for a list of his movies.
I would say Desperation, but that will be a mini series. The Dark Tower series is the best, but not one of those novels stand alone. The only ones that I truly enjoy that have no plans to be mutilated into script form would be "The Regulators" or maybe "Gerald's Game".

"The Long Walk" one of the Bachman books is one of his best I think. "The Talisman" as mentioned earlier is a great book and I have always wanted to see it in movie form. Especially, how they would portray Wolf and Sunlight Gardner.

The Eyes of the Dragon was an excellent book (got me into reading when I was young), but it's never been a movie
