Excuse me for saying so, but " U r gay, H-D motorcycles" Is typical of these dipsh!t cagers who come in spouting off about things they know nothing about.
Nothing in particular against H-D, just dipsh!t cagers.
Get a bike that fits the kind of riding you want to do. Like (Mad Scientist Matt) said, 'the right tool for the job'.

As a former owner of several Goldwings and a current owner of a KLR650, I can tell you that the KLR is more reliable and cheaper to buy & operate. And its great fun, its quick, nimble and reasonably light. But of course the KLR sucks for extended highway riding, when the Goldwing is a clearly superior machine.
So, as others have already said, get the right tool for the job, as these are very different bikes. If you want a street legal dirt bike or are doing a lot of city riding, its hard to beat the KLR. But if you need something that is comfortable at 120 km/h or more for long periods, look at a Goldwing, V Strom, or BMW.
If this is your first bike then I would not recommend the KLR as it has a high center of gravity, especially if you have short legs. But I would recommend a dirt bike as then you have the ability to practice in an off-road situation away from the hazards of the street.

For touring you can't beat the goldwing. The klr would be a good local bike for town and tearing up the backroads. But then again my naked '78 goldwing tears up the backroads just fine too. The only advantage the klr would have is off road. Otherwise your best bet would be a goldwing.

Use the right tool for the job. Other than the obvious questions - Budget? Dirt riding or long highway trips? - I would say that if you are a newbie the KLR will be much easier to ride.
