Because some people can't make the distinction between hating American and hating what the current American government may be doing. Or between loving American and agreeing with current American policies.

They refuse to acknowledge the difference between burning a flag to say "America should be destroyed" and burning to flag to say "Look at what those horrible politicians are doing to the country that I love".

And because they can't make that distinction, they are effectively putting false words in the mouths of those who have a different message, and then seeking to punish them for something they never said.

Besides, we live in a country where the Constitution is not respected and hatred for anyone who disagrees with you is the new national pastime. If our own government cannot even follow our established laws or respect the Constitution, why should the rest of the American people.

Cause the flag represents our country you fool, and all of the soldiers who has died for YOUR freedom. If they want to protest, whatever, but if there going to burn there own flag they need to get out of the country.Go find some old Veterans who fought for our freedom and ask them whats wrong with it, and see if they don't burn YOU.

And kookoo, the military burning flags because they are old or tattered is a big difference than burning them because you don't believe in a war .God your an idiot, no wonder people give you such a hard time on here

Some people associate the American flag very strongly with America itself, its values, its history, everything it represents so naturally they feel that burning the flag burns, symbolically of course, everything that America stands for. Some people go so far as to see the flag as a sacred symbol, which was never its intended purpose, not unlike the way religious symbols are felt to be sacred. Symbols have a funny way of standing in for the thing they represent and, of evoking an emotional response for that thing or idea they are associated with. Consider symbols like the playboy bunny, it's just a symbol but does it not evoke certain feelings or emotions? The bunny is only about fifty years old while the flag is about four times as old. Is it any wonder then that people might be offended by flag burning? Personally, I don't approve of flag burning, just doesn't work for me but by the same token I would vehemently defend our right to free speech in this country and your right to burn flags if you choose to.

Over the past 230 years a lot of men fought, many were wounded, some of them died for that flag. We don't take that lightly.

Yes flag burning is constitutional. Free Speech and all that. Just remember that not everyone appreciates what you are saying and they also have the right of free speech.

The flag is the visual representation of your homeland. It's a symbol, but it's a weighted symbol. When you see people burning the flag, they're not just burning a piece of cloth. They're burning your home, your friends, your family... Your world. It's psychological. It surprised me when I saw footage of the protests in Iraq and their burning flags and effigies and I got totally irate. I didn't realize that it had that much of an impact.

As an admitted conservative, I surely tend to get offended because of the fact i've got self belief that maximum people who burn the flag gain this because of the fact they're disillusioned approximately this president's stance in this or that concern in at present's paper. i've got self belief the flag isn't a dynamic image of america at present or at any particular given time. it extremely is an emblem of the hassle-free concepts from which america arose which contain the ideals that each and everybody adult adult males are created equivalent and their basic unalienable rights. From this perspective, I in basic terms don't comprehend why anybody might prefer to deface it? inspite of the undeniable fact that, I additionally understand that between those basic rights additionally includes your stunning to burn it. i will delight in the argument (taken from the yank President): "you prefer to declare this land because of the fact the land of the loose? Then the logo of your us of a can not in basic terms be a flag. the logo additionally must be certainly one of its electorate workout consultation his stunning to burn that flag in protest."

Because it's seen as disrespectful, not only to the flag, but to the soldiers who fought and died under that flag. That's my take on it anyway.
