The planet Beetlejuice, on the arm of Orion.

Beetlejuice, “the Arm of the Barbarian,” is a red giant, a rare orange sapphire as stars go, and also a variable. It pulses irregularly between magnitude 0.2 nearing Rigel’s brilliance and 1.2, a factor of 250%. The diameter of this star increases by 60%, more than 100 million miles. So, when you see it, who knows how bright it will be. At a distance of 520 light years, its light left in 1483 as Columbus was begging Queen Isabella to come over here and “discover” America. Beetlejuice could contain 160,000,000+ of our suns and is one of the very largest of all stars. It is brighter than 14,000 Suns but is shiningly at only 6,000° F; if it were as hot as our Sun at 10,000° F, it would be twice as luminous. Beetlejuice is a Senior Citizen amongst the stars’ general population. It has exhausted its thermonuclear fuel and is ready to flare into a Super Nova and then into the mother of all black holes. So, keep an eye on it, and be glad, very, very glad that it is so far away.
