Obi-Wan and Anakin removed theirs. Obi-Wan removed his when he fought Grievous. Qui-Gonn and Obi-Wan removed theirs when fighting Darth Maul.

Does it really slow them down/distract them/hinder them when fighting?

By the way, there is a difference between tying shoes and taking off shoes. If I was worried about a shoe lace, I would tie my shoes, not take them off. So why not tie cloaks?

No zips on pockets. There would be change and space ship keys flying everywhere if they kept them on...

It's a gentleman thing, However - if you remember A new Hope Part IV near the end Obi-Wan is fighting Darth Vader and neither one take off their cloaks/cape.

Yea it kind of does slow them down and the cloak is really just a protectant for them to walk around in so they dont have some little kid taking their light saber and taking it off is the polite way to do it. Its based on like sword fights where they take off their coat or cloak before fighting. and if you reached down to tie your shoe b4 a fight the other person could just take theyre lightsaber and kill you so you would take them off or make sure they were tied before hand.

Absolutely! That long cloak gets in the way and could trip them up. Not sure why they would want to wear them any way except they do not want others to know they are Jedi (hiding the light saber).

Good coats are hard to find and expensive. Light saber burns won't come out at the dry cleaners.

A loose cloak might get burned by a swinging light saber....

Well, look at them....

Would YOU wanna fight with long flowing robes that your enemy could use to foul you up in?

Or even worse you go to do some trick move and you slip and bust your azz.

Because how are they supposed to do all their cool jedi moves when they wear those huge robes. It would inhibit their movement.
